Dr. Winnie Foo graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Sydney, Australia with honors. Thereafter, she worked in various public hospitals for several years before beginning her general medicine practice. Dr. Winnie has experience in emergency medicine, general medicine, general surgery, orthopedics, urology, and ophthalmology. She is able to perform minor surgeries in her clinic. She is fluent in English, Mandarin, and its various dialects.
She possesses a Graduate Diploma in Family Medicine (GDFM), which is an advanced post-graduate degree that only some general practitioners have.
Her undergraduate degree was in Microbiology from the National University of Singapore, and she also holds a Graduate Diploma in Molecular Medicine, specializing in Oncology and Immunology, from the University College of London, UK. Dr. Winnie decided then to continue her research at the Institute of Molecular Biology (IMCB) back in Singapore. During the year 2000, she started doing research in gene cloning.
Subsequently, she continued research at Communicable Diseases Center on Infectious diseases such as HIV, Tuberculosis (TB), Pertussis, and Meningitis. Some of her research projects included a joint collaboration with Cellectis Australia in detecting TB, Pertussis, and Cytomegalovirus (CMV). Such detection techniques are now used in both private and public hospitals in Singapore and around the world.
Her passion for clinical medicine lead her to do research in Men’s Health – Erectile Dysfunction and the field of Urology at a point in time when treatment options were few and novel. Apart from her academic achievements, she is a published author in several International Medical Journals.
As a result of her Sydney primary care training, Dr. Winnie Foo strongly believes in holistic care and empowering the patient with the knowledge to better his or her own health.
